LayoutEditor
A layout editor for MEMS, integrated circuits and any other technology that uses photomasks. Thousands of licences have been sold, and the program is in use at most of the large technology companies and universities.
It reads and writes GDSII, OASIS, OpenAccess, DXF, CIF, Gerber, LEF, DEF and further formats. A schematic editor, a 3D view, a design-rule checker and scripting in C++ and Python are part of the same program. It runs on Linux, Windows and macOS.
Editions, prices and the download are on layouteditor.com. The handbook is on layouteditor.org. Licences are sold in the online shop, and purchase orders are accepted by email.
Updated continuously, with AI built in
New releases appear several times a year. The latest one is from 22 October 2026, the fifth this year.
The LayoutEditor was one of the first layout programs with AI support. The AI console creates designs and scripts from a request, and other AI programs such as Cursor or Claude can drive the editor over MCP.
